Much of the trouble here arrives with the traffic. Everything crossing Kingston Bridge funnels into Horse Fair and back out along the A310, and a wheel scuffed in that squeeze is often a soft tyre by the time the car is home. The rest turns up on the doorstep: one corner sitting low after a night outside, a screw collected somewhere between Hampton Court Road and Wood Street. What the fitter needs is a hard, even surface and enough width to swing a jack without standing in moving traffic. A resident bay outside a KT1 terrace does that perfectly well once the car is straight in it. Drives exist further out towards Teddington and on the Kingston Hall Road side, and they are simpler again. The car parks over the bridge are level and lit. What will not do is a grass verge, a loading bay on Clarence Street, or the bridge approach at any time of day.

Calls come from three sorts of address. The older terraces off Upper Teddington Road and the roads behind the High Street have narrow frontages and marked bays rather than drives, so the fitter wants the road name and roughly where you left the car. The station approach at Hampton Wick is tight and busy with people catching trains, which makes it an awkward spot to have a car up on a jack. Anything sitting on Horse Fair, the bridge approach or Kingston Bridge itself has to be moved before a wheel comes off, because that traffic does not stop. Over the water there is much more room: Thames Side, Ashdown Road and Canbury Place car parks all offer a level bay, and St. George's Industrial Estate suits a works vehicle.
