Two things generate most of the work in SW14. The parade on Upper Richmond Road West has cars nosing into bays between buses, which is how alloys get scuffed and sidewalls pinched against a kerb. And the side roads off Sheen Lane and Manor Road are lined nose to tail, so a slow puncture usually shows itself the following morning, not while driving. Neither needs the car taken anywhere. The wheel is lifted where it is parked and the tyre mended or swapped beside it.

Drives, bays and car parks.

Driveways come first, because they take the jack cleanly and no traffic goes past. Otherwise a permit bay in one of the side streets off Sheen Lane, parked square rather than at an angle, leaves the fitter room on the road side. Sheen Lane Car Park handles a car that has limped in under its own power. What does not serve is a bay directly on the parade, where buses and deliveries pass close to the offside, and no part of the A205.

Callers are spread from the Sheen Gate end, where Richmond Park begins, across to Queen's Road and Manor Road on the B353, and down Sheen Lane towards Mortlake station. The housing is mostly terrace and semi, so roughly half the jobs land on a driveway and the other half on the street outside. Much of the district is controlled parking, and a valid permit is all a fitter needs to work at the kerb. Sheen Lane Car Park and the Sheen Gate car park are the public options for a car that still drives, with Roehampton Gate Car Park further round the park boundary. Upper Richmond Road West itself is none of these things: it is the South Circular, and there is no standing room beside it.
