Damage here tends to begin on the A24 and end three streets away. A pothole taken on Tooting High Street, a kerb clipped turning into Mitcham Road, a screw collected somewhere near Amen Corner: the tyre holds long enough for the driver to find a space, and the space is rarely outside their own front door. Bus lanes and no stopping lengths run through the centre, so a wheel never comes off on the main road itself.
