The station shapes the tyre trouble around it. Cars are left on permit bays from early morning until the evening, which is when somebody notices the near side has gone down and there is nothing open. Sharp debris comes off the A3 at Battersea Rise and the A3205 York Road, and the terraces packed either side of the line leave so little space between parked cars that alloys meet kerbs regularly. None of it needs the car moved. Give the sidewall marking and the street.

Drives, bays and car parks.

A permit bay on one of the side streets is where most of this work is done, the van pulling up behind it and the wheel lifted on the footway side. A parking court on the York Road or Falcon estate gives more room, subject to the estate office knowing. A supermarket bay at the Asda, the Lidl or the Waitrose can serve for a short job while you are shopping, though those are customer bays and not somewhere to leave a car standing. The through routes are not available at all.

Calls come from the streets between Battersea Rise and Latchmere Road, from the York Road and Falcon estates immediately behind the station, and from the blocks stretching towards Battersea Park Road. With nothing public to park in, a resident bay becomes the normal working spot, and it serves well enough: the car keeps its place and the fitter takes the wheel off from the pavement. Estate courts are better again where the managing agent is happy. What is out is the A3 through Battersea Rise and along Clapham Common North Side, the A3220 along Latchmere Road, and the A3205 York Road, all of which are through routes with nowhere for a stopped vehicle. The ULEZ runs continuously over the whole of SW11 and touches nothing that is standing still.
