Second the Westway and the Marylebone Flyover, which throw up debris and punish any wheel that clips a kerb coming off a slip. The station car park, where allowed, is the straightforward answer: public, level and reachable from most of W2 by a car that still drives. A hotel forecourt or a basement space works where the hotel is content with it. Otherwise a pay-by-phone bay on a street off Sussex Gardens, paid up for the length of the job. The Westway, the flyover and Edgware Road are out at any hour, and so is the drop-off lane outside the station.
Cover spreads right across W2, from the hotel run along Sussex Gardens, the streets off Chapel Street and Old Marylebone Road, and the blocks stretching towards Westbourne Green and Bayswater. Paddington Station Car Park, if the owner agrees, is a public option with room for this work. Past it there is Q-Park Marble Arch at the far end, and Sale Place and the quieter turnings for anyone on a pay-by-phone bay. Off limits are the Westway itself, the Marylebone Flyover and Edgware Road, none of which let a vehicle stand. W2 sits north of the Congestion Charge boundary, while the ULEZ applies here as in every London borough, and a parked car pays into neither.

Can you fit a tyre in the Paddington station car park?
That is the most workable spot in W2: public, level and with enough space beside the bays to take a wheel off. Drive in if the car will still make it, park well clear of the ramp, and tell the fitter the level and the number of the bay.
Does the Congestion Charge cover W2?
The zone stops short of most of it, its edge following Marylebone Road and Edgware Road round to the south and east. The ULEZ does cover the district, at every hour of every day, but it only bills a vehicle that actually moves.
The tyre let go while I was on the Westway. What then?
If the car is still steering true, leave at the next exit for a street near Paddington or Westbourne Green where the car can sit still. If not, edge left where safest, leave by the kerb-side doors and call 999 if at risk.
Do you come out to the hotels along Sussex Gardens?
That strip is on the round. The car normally sits on a hotel forecourt or a pay-by-phone bay at the kerb, either of which suits the job, and the hotel only needs warning that a van will pull up.
