Overnight punctures in Nechells come from the same metal as daytime ones: offcuts from the estates along the A47 in the tread of a car leaving Star City or a van at a Heartlands Parkway unit. One lodged in the tread can usually be patched. Waiting for a daytime garage means a vehicle off the road when it is needed, and a tyre left flat on the rim overnight in a yard can mark the bead.
