Orangery Lane car park is the obvious option in the centre, and a car that made it there under its own power can be dealt with in a bay where the operator allows. Residential streets off Eltham Hill and Court Road work well too, provided the car stands square in the road and a door will open on the traffic side. Driveways on the Well Hall and New Eltham sides are better than either. The High Street bays themselves are not the place, nor is any loading bay: too little room and too much going past.
The hardest part to work is the stretch from Eltham Hill up through the High Street and round into Court Yard, where the bays are short stay and the traffic does not let up. A wheel coming off in one of those holds everybody up, so the fitter would rather have you in the Orangery Lane car park, with the site's permission, or on a residential turning behind the High Street. Away from the centre it gets easier: the roads towards Well Hall, Middle Park, Avery Hill and New Eltham are mostly houses with frontage, and a drive is the best surface there is. The one road to leave alone entirely is the Rochester Way Relief Road. All of SE9 sits inside the ULEZ, which bills a vehicle for being driven, not for having a wheel taken off it.
