Most flats on the estate are found at the start of the day, a tyre that was soft coming home off the Southern By-pass and is flat by morning. Others turn up after a scrape on the Russels Hall Island kerbs or the Scotts Green Island approach. A car that is still on its own drive is the simplest job of all: send the sidewall size and the DY1 or DY2 postcode, so the matching tyre is loaded before the van leaves.

Drives, bays and car parks.

Drives are the norm on the estate and most jobs finish on one, with the car left exactly where the owner parked it. A kerbside space on a quiet close works too, provided the van can pull in behind. A bay in the Port West Retail Park car park suits any car still able to reach it. The carriageway of the Southern By-pass, the roundabouts and any hospital bay without permission are not usable.

Calls come from the crescents and closes of the estate itself, from Scott's Green and Holly Hall on its southern side, and from people parked around the edge of the Russells Hall Hospital grounds. The hospital car parks belong to the hospital, so a job there only goes ahead once the parking office has said yes. Port West Retail Park and the Asda and Aldi car parks nearby are open ground where a tyre can be swapped, again with the store's agreement. The A4101 Kingswinford Road and both island junctions are the places not to stop: traffic comes round them without a pause, and there is no room to work beside a car. The industrial units at Woodside and Thornleigh Trading Estate send the occasional van call as well. Dudley has no clean-air charge, so a parked car costs nothing extra.
