Very few cars in SW1P belong to houses. They belong to offices, government buildings and hotels, they arrive on a weekday morning, and they go into a car park below ground. A tyre that deflates while the car is down there is going nowhere, and neither is one that softens in a controlled bay up on the street. So the fitter drives in with the right size and gets on with it where the car stands.

A car park under an office block is the best working space around here, level and sheltered, with clearance and security the only obstacles. On the street, a paid or permit bay away from the main roads does the job, the car parked square with room to kneel on the offside. Coach bays and loading bays are not usable, however empty they look on a Sunday. Where a car is in too tight, moving it a couple of feet is usually all that is needed.

The pattern here follows the working week. Weekdays bring office and hotel cars from the streets between Victoria Street and the river, and from the blocks around Victoria and the City of Westminster. Weekends empty out, and those same streets become easier to work in. Every bay is controlled, and the A302 Victoria Street, Bressenden Place and the A202 Vauxhall Bridge Road are red route with buses on them, so a car with a flat must be off them before anything starts. Nothing like a public multi-storey sits in this pocket for a driver to be sent to, which leaves the car park below an office or a hotel as the practical answer, and that turns on the ramp height and on building security.
