A station district generates a particular kind of tyre call. The car is left on a street near the platform in the morning, and by the evening one corner has gone soft, usually from something collected earlier on Baring Road or Burnt Ash Lane. Nobody wants to change a wheel in the dark after a day at work, and a space-saver only postpones the problem. A mobile fitter turns that into a stationary job: the car keeps its space, the wheel is taken off there, and the replacement goes back balanced.

Grove Park Road and Chinbrook Road are narrow enough in stretches that a car with a wheel off would block them, which is why a drive or a wider turning is preferred. Railway parking belongs to the train operator and is not somewhere a van sets up without asking first. SE12 is ULEZ territory round the clock, at no cost whatever to a car standing on its jack.
