Four places in Britain answer to Grange Park, so it is worth saying plainly that this one is in Enfield, in EN2 and N21 either side of the railway. What goes wrong with tyres here is quiet. A slow puncture that takes a week to declare itself, a valve gone brittle with age, a rim caught while turning into one of the narrow avenues off Slades Hill. The car is nearly always at home when it is noticed, which is the easiest possible starting point.

A driveway is the obvious answer here and most callers have one. The avenues are wide enough that a kerbside change works too, with the car parallel and the flat wheel on the pavement side. Where the job would need a car park, the ones that count are in Enfield Town, so a car that will not move is better dealt with at home. Store parking at the Waitrose or the Sainsbury's is theirs to permit. The Ridgeway and Windmill Hill take enough through traffic that neither is a place to be kneeling.

The calls are residential almost without exception: the avenues between The Ridgeway and the station, the roads off Slades Hill and Windmill Hill, and the stretch along Enfield Road towards the town. Off street parking is normal in this pocket, so the great majority of the work happens on a household drive with the car left where it was already standing. What the district does not have is anywhere public of its own. Enfield Chase Station Car Park, Palace Gardens and the Palace Exchange are all over in Enfield Town rather than here, and the Waitrose bays are the shop's. Greater London means ULEZ around the clock, but a charge attaches to movement, and a jacked car makes none.
