Tyre trouble in N19 is mostly a kerbing job. Junction Road and Hornsey Rise both narrow where they climb, buses take the inside line, and a driver squeezing past puts a sidewall into the kerb at an angle. The bulge shows itself a day later outside the house. Nobody has to drive it anywhere after that: name the street and the nearest house number, read out the whole code stamped round the sidewall, and the replacement rides up in the van.

Drives, bays and car parks.

Off-street parking barely exists up here, so most jobs finish in a resident bay on a level side road, the car sitting square against the kerb while the fitter works off the pavement. Where a firm will open its gate, an estate yard is better still, and several sit within reach of N19, Bush and Hannover among them. Shop car parks at the Aldi or the Budgens run to short stays and are watched, which makes them a poor place to sit and wait. Nothing at all happens at the kerb of the A1.

Calls arrive from the streets between Upper Holloway and Archway stations, from the terraces climbing Hornsey Rise towards Crouch End Hill, and from drivers who leave the car around Tufnell Park and walk the rest of the way. N19 has no public car park worth the name at this end, and the one on Crouch Hall Road sits well over towards Crouch End, so the work almost always happens in a controlled bay on a side street. The A1 through here is a red route, and Archway Road is on a gradient besides, so neither is a place to put a jack under anything. A level turning off Junction Road is. All of this is Greater London, so ULEZ applies around the clock, though it bills vehicles that move rather than one standing on a jack.
